I have laid pine bark on gardens for over 15 years, and nothing matches its warm reddish-brown finish and fresh pine scent. This range covers two jobs. Landscaping Applications
Pine bark suits natural, woodland-style planting and acid-lovers like pieris, skimmia, heuchera and gaultheria. It is not suited to driveways or areas that need the sharp drainage of gravel. My favourite uses:

How to Look After a Pine Bark Mulch Surface
Lay pine bark straight onto soil, not membrane. On fabric it dries out and blows about. On soil it draws up moisture and stays put. Depths and the 2.5cm top-up rule are in my guide to laying bark chippings.
What to Check Before Ordering Pine Bark Mulch
Batches vary slightly, so order everything in one load. Put your measurements into the bark, mulch and wood chip calculator and aim for 15 to 30cm on play areas and 7.5cm on borders and veg patches, plus a little extra for settling.

Deluxe Pine Play Nuggets 45 get extra screening to cut fines and white wood, so they last about 50% longer and look cleaner than standard Pine Play Nuggets. The standard nuggets carry the same BS EN 1177:2018 certificate for less money.
Is pine bark mulch suitable to use as pine bark chips for play areas?
Pine bark mulch is suitable for play areas when it is a certified play grade, and both our Play Nuggets are tested to BS EN 1177:2018. The Deluxe Pine Play Nuggets 45 last longer and look cleaner.
How long does pine bark as mulch last in UK weather?
Pine bark mulch lasts 4 to 6 years at full depth in UK weather, and Deluxe Pine Nuggets last 5 to 10 years. Chunky 30-60mm sizes hold up best through wet winters and hot spells.
Can I use pine bark nuggets around acid-loving plants?
Pine bark nuggets are safe around acid-loving plants like rhododendrons, camellias and blueberries, because they will not push the soil alkaline. They do not actively acidify the soil either.
Which pine bark is best for weed suppression in borders?
The chunky grades, Deluxe Pine Nuggets and the two Play Nuggets, are best for weed suppression in borders because they make a denser barrier that lasts longer. Any grade works at a 7.5cm layer with occasional raking.
Does French maritime pine bark or Scots pine differ much from these?
French maritime and Scots pine bark are much the same as ours, because our pine barks include these species with the same colour and scent. The difference is our screening and grading, which cuts fines and adds longevity.
